This book of photographs was made in collaboration with the Comet team and Bryce Kanights, A San Francisco Native, 80s pro street skater and lifelong skateboard photgrapher. If skateboarding has any common associates, the varied and thilling hills of San Francisco are certainly one. Working with Bryce on this project to document our skateboarding in the Bay Area was an honor. Through Bryce and his crew's skating and later his lens work, many of us were provided with the first taste of what inspired Comet Skateboards. - Jason Salfi
Shred City is a 45 page book including photos of Eric Jensen, Anthony Flis, Dave Tanaci, Jason Salfi, Nick Ronzani, Liam Morgan, Jesse Breiman and an interview with Cliff Coleman about the origins of downhill skateboarding in the Bay Area. Cliff is the originator of downhill sliding and goes into incredible detail on the progression of downhill skating and skateboarding as a whole. He has been skating since 1960 and still skates to this day. This book would be incomplete without paying homage to Cliff.
"No one knows for sure who did the first slides. My first slide was at Underhill garage, between Channing and Haste at College Ave. in Berkeley, CA. This was in 1965 on clay wheels while a member of the Northern California Hobie team. It was on smooth concrete and was a no comply slide (push, plant a foot on the ground, slide the board 180 and then put the foot back on). I dreamed of being able to do it without stepping off to slide the board" - Cliff Coleman talking about his first slides on a skateboard.
"In between runs and while traveling in the van, the guys and I bonded quickly as we talked about the past, present and future of skateboarding - each of us proud of what skateboarding has offered to us. Truth be told, out on the streets it's not so important what type of skateboard you ride, it's that you ride. And to that I say "Ride on!" Viva skateboarding!" - Bryce Kanights
